Iranian-Ukrainian talks in New York to discuss managing tensions

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha the importance of diplomacy in managing tensions during a meeting on the sidelines of the high-level United Nations General Assembly in New York today, Thursday.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated in a statement received by the News Video Agency that the meeting followed a phone conversation that took place in August between the foreign ministers of Iran and Ukraine, during which both ministers emphasized the need to maintain channels of communication between the two countries and affirmed the importance of taking necessary bilateral steps to manage relationships between them.

It added that the two sides agreed, in the context of exchanging views on developments in Europe and Western Asia, to continue communication in order to prevent escalations in their relations.

It continued that the meeting included an exchange of views on bilateral issues, particularly the illegal attack on an Iranian ship in the Caspian Sea, and discussed ways to resolve these issues.
