The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, affirmed today, Tuesday, that improving relations with the federal government contributes to addressing the issues and files that have been pending for years, emphasizing the importance of continuing coordination between Erbil and Baghdad.
Barzani, on the sidelines of the opening of the seventh "HITEX" exhibition in Erbil, called on Kurdish political parties to reactivate the Kurdistan Parliament, stressing that this represents a national responsibility that falls on the deputies elected by the people, urging them to uphold the trust of the voters and the votes they received.
Regarding the withdrawal of international coalition forces led by the United States from Iraq, Barzani stated that the presence of these forces in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region was symbolic, pointing out that the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army fought most of the battles against ISIS, and that they are prepared to face any future threats.
He added that the Kurdistan Region currently does not face a direct security threat, clarifying that the regional government is in ongoing discussions with the federal government and allies to provide a system for air defense and to combat drones.
Barzani indicated that there are some security gaps in various areas, emphasizing the need to enhance coordination between Erbil and Baghdad to prevent terrorist groups from exploiting them.
Regarding the relations between the region and the federal government, Barzani stressed that the continuity of good relations and cooperation between the two sides represents a fundamental factor in addressing the pending issues and enhancing stability.
