The Élysée Palace announced on Monday that French President Emmanuel Macron rejected the resignation of Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez following the massive protests and violence witnessed in the country on Saturday.
The Élysée confirmed that Macron asked the police to adopt "new working methods" to confront "those committing acts of vandalism" and pointed to "failures" that led to the violence during France's protests.

French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized in a televised address to the French on Sunday the need to hold accountable "those who destroyed and those who looted" during the protests, pledging "full transparency" regarding the security strategy.
In his speech on Sunday, Macron mentioned that he asked Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez to "draw the necessary lessons," particularly regarding intelligence gathering and proactive measures, adding that he expects "clear answers" on this matter.
