The head of the Iraqi athletes' union, Laith Hussein, confirmed the union's ongoing efforts to provide necessary services for athletes and enhance their health, administrative, and organizational rights, in appreciation of the achievements they have contributed to Iraqi sports. Hussein stated to a correspondent of the news agency that the union represents all athletes and prioritizes securing their rights and meeting their needs in various fields, explaining that union work requires continuous efforts to translate demands into practical measures. He added that the union operates under Law No. (52) of 1987 and seeks to activate the rights it guarantees for athletes, pointing out the follow-up on health cases for veteran athletes, players, and ill individuals, as well as taking action to restore their rights through legislation that the Council of Representatives is working to enact, and striving to provide government offices for unions in the provinces. Hussein explained that the union continues its meetings with the Ministry of Health regarding the provision of free health insurance services, in addition to coordinating with the City of Medicine Hospital to facilitate the provision of medical services to athletes, especially for cases requiring special care. He noted the work on allocating a committee to follow up on medical cases that require treatment outside Iraq if suitable treatment cannot be provided within the country, confirming that the union aims to complete the file of veteran athletes' demands soon. He called on athletes to visit the union and obtain the official documents related to health insurance to benefit from available services, noting that efforts also include following up on the facilities provided to athletes in several private colleges, including discounts, as well as completing administrative transactions and facilitating their affairs. Hussein concluded by affirming that the union seeks to build an effective union institution that safeguards the rights of athletes and provides them with the services they deserve, in recognition of their journey, achievements, and role in serving Iraqi sports.
