Iraqi weightlifter Ali Ammar continues to shine in international events, having won the gold medal in the snatch event at the World Weightlifting Championship held in China, adding a new achievement to the record of Iraqi sports.
Ammar was able to clinch first place in the snatch competition, successfully lifting 211 kilograms, surpassing a select group of the world's top weightlifters, confirming his ability to compete at the highest international levels.
The President of the Iraqi Weightlifting Federation, Mohammed Kazem Mzahel, stated in comments followed by the news agency, “This achievement is not surprising for weightlifter Ali Ammar, who possesses outstanding technical and physical abilities, in addition to his continuous determination to achieve the best results and raise Iraq's name in global forums.”
He added that the accomplishment came as a result of the great efforts made by coach Ammar Yasir in preparing the lifter and getting him ready for this challenge, along with the continuous support and follow-up from the Iraqi Federation and the Iraqi National Olympic Committee.
Mzahel affirmed that the crowning represents the fruit of the integrated efforts of the federation, the Olympic committee, the coaching staff, and the lifter, reflecting the extent of the preparations and work that preceded participation in the championship.
Ali Ammar had previously achieved a remarkable accomplishment at the Asian Games “Asian Games Nagoya 2026,” where he broke the world record in the snatch by lifting 219 kilograms, and later won a silver in the total with a score of 465 kilograms, consisting of 219 kilograms in the snatch and 246 kilograms in the clean and jerk.
This achievement enhances Ali Ammar's status among the top stars of weightlifting and represents an important addition to the record of Iraqi sports achievements, amidst aspirations to continue winning medals in upcoming international competitions.
