As the month of August reaches its last day, the salaries of employees from several Iraqi ministries and government agencies have yet to be disbursed, amid a state of concern and confusion among employees, especially with the approach of September and their ongoing financial and living obligations.
Tracking indicates that salaries for some entities have been disbursed, including the Ministry of Interior, along with companies and departments related to some ministries, while employees of major ministries, including higher education, scientific research, education, electricity, health, and others, are still waiting to receive their salaries for August, which is nearing its end today, Monday.
The Ministry of Finance announced on August 26 that it had begun funding the salaries of state employees for August, confirming that the funding and disbursement process is occurring gradually according to government entities.
This comes at a time when the government and the Ministry of Finance affirm that employees' salaries are secured, and there is no intention to delay their disbursement or distribute them every 45 days.
Finance Minister Falih al-Sari stated that the monthly salary cost amounts to about 7.7 trillion dinars, assuring that it is fully secured.
However, the reality for many employees remains different, as a large segment is still waiting for their salaries to reach their accounts with the end of August, which increases financial pressures on families tied to fixed monthly commitments, including rents, installments, bills, and living expenses.
The delay in disbursement puts employees in a state of uncertainty, especially since the salary date represents, for many of them, the primary source for covering their monthly needs, at a time when the country has witnessed warnings and reports in recent weeks regarding liquidity pressures and their impact on the regularity of government payments.
