German Chancellor Friedrich Merz confirmed today, Tuesday, that the Iraqi government has taken important steps in combating corruption.

Merz said during a press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaydi, which was followed by the "News Video Agency," that "the Iraqi government has taken important steps in combating corruption."

He added that "the mission of the German forces within the international coalition ends at the end of this month, and we are ready to continue providing security and economic assistance to Iraq, and we encourage the Iraqi government to go forward firmly with the disarmament of the factions."

He pointed out that "many of our companies in Iraq are doing pioneering work," confirming "support for Iraq regarding the issue of prisoners transferred from Syria."

He clarified that "he discussed with Al-Zaydi the situation in the Strait of Hormuz," stating that "Iran must open the Strait of Hormuz and stop supporting its agents and transferring the conflict to other places."

He added: "We are concerned about the situation in the Red Sea and will not allow navigation there to be hostage to the Houthis."
