Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaydi received in New York the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, former Iraqi President Barham Salih, and the accompanying delegation.
According to a statement published by Al-Zaydi's media office, received by the News Video Agency, during the meeting, several issues related to the file of refugees and displaced persons were discussed, along with ways to enhance cooperation between Iraq and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees/UNHCR, as well as discussions on humanitarian efforts aimed at supporting affected groups.
The Prime Minister affirmed Iraq's significant interest in the humanitarian file and its commitment to continue cooperation with the High Commissioner and relevant international organizations, which contributes to supporting displaced persons and refugees and improving their conditions, as well as enhancing stability in the affected areas.
The statement clarified the importance of addressing the causes that lead to displacement and asylum, and strengthening international and regional coordination in this area, to ensure the protection of the rights of refugees and displaced persons according to international laws and conventions.
For his part, Salih expressed the Commission's readiness to continue supporting Iraq and enhancing cooperation with it in humanitarian and developmental fields, contributing to meeting all requirements to end the effects of displacement files.
