The President of the Islamic Republic, Masoud Beizakian, and the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, held a meeting in New York on the sidelines of the eighty-first session of the United Nations General Assembly, during which they emphasized the importance of continuing diplomatic initiatives to reduce regional tensions.
Beizakian stressed the historical depth of cultural and ideological ties between Iran and Pakistan, stating that "the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to deepen and develop bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Pakistan.
The two sides also reviewed the course of relations between Tehran and Islamabad, discussing the agreements and understandings achieved during the reciprocal visits of officials from both countries, and they stressed the need to continue following up on these agreements and implementing them effectively.
The President of the Islamic Republic described the relations between Iran and Pakistan as sustainable and based on wide commonalities, affirming the Islamic Republic of Iran's serious commitment to solidifying and developing bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Beizakian also expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing communication and consultations between the officials of the two countries, considering that their continuity paves the way for speeding up the implementation of agreements and enhancing the common interests of Tehran and Islamabad.
In this context, Beizakian praised Pakistan's principled approaches and coordinated efforts in supporting peace, stability, and regional security, and he emphasized the importance of continuing consultations and diplomatic initiatives to reduce tensions and prevent the expansion of regional crises.
The situation in the Strait of Hormuz, developments in the Arabian Peninsula, and other issues related to regional security were among the topics of dialogue between the two sides.
Discussions also covered issues related to agreements and memorandums of understanding between the two countries, the course of regional dialogues, and diplomatic and mediation efforts to assist in the peaceful resolution of disputes.
For his part, the Prime Minister of Pakistan expressed his concern regarding the ongoing conflicts and the escalation of tensions in the region, emphasizing the need to reduce tensions and enhance diplomatic paths to achieve sustainable peace and stability.
Shahbaz Sharif also highlighted the importance of implementing the Islamabad understanding and announced Pakistan's readiness to continue playing a constructive and honest role in supporting regional peace and stability.
