Kurdish Fatwa Regarding Cosmetic Surgery for Animals

The Kurdish Region's Fatwa High Council issued a new religious ruling today, Thursday, regarding surgical procedures for animals, distinguishing between permissible and recommended therapeutic surgeries and the prohibited cosmetic surgeries.

The council stated in a statement received by the Video News Agency that therapeutic procedures are considered permissible by Sharia, and may reach the level of recommendation if their purpose is to treat diseases, mend fractures, alleviate pain, or remove deformities resulting from accidents, based on teachings that encourage kindness to animals.

Furthermore, the council warns against performing unnecessary cosmetic procedures that aim to change the original creation for the purpose of boasting or participating in beauty contests and achieving commercial gains.

It added that the ruling explains the prohibition of cosmetic surgeries as they fall under the category of altering God's creation and expose the animal to danger and torture without justification, in addition to being a form of extravagance and wastefulness.
