The Chairman of the Iraqi Islamic Supreme Council, Sheikh Hammam Hammoudi, confirmed today, Tuesday, that Iraq is moving towards a comprehensive and complete sovereignty project and entering a phase of building a capable state, calling for the expansion of cooperation with Russia in the security and economic fields.
This came during Hammoudi's reception of the Russian Ambassador to Baghdad, Aleksei Kotrachev, on the occasion of the end of his diplomatic mission in Iraq, where the ambassador praised what he described as Hammoudi's national spirit and his keenness to enhance relations and mutual interests between the two countries.
Hammoudi expressed his appreciation for Russia's positions on regional issues and its support for Iraq during the challenges it faced, emphasizing that Baghdad is moving towards consolidating its sovereignty and building state institutions capable of protecting its interests.
He called for a larger role for Russia in Iraq, especially in the fields of security cooperation and economic investment, stressing that Iraq will not forfeit the countries that stood by its side, and that mutual interests represent the foundation for enhancing stability and peace.
For his part, Kotrachev stated that his years of working in Iraq, during various periods, showed him that developmental progress had occurred, reflected in the citizens' quality of life, commending the resilience of Iraqis in the face of the security threats the country faced.
The Russian ambassador expressed his confidence in the Iraqis' ability to overcome challenges and continue building a more stable and prosperous future.
