Several areas in southern Lebanon witnessed an Israeli military escalation today, Tuesday, represented by explosions and artillery shelling, coinciding with movements of the Israeli army and setting fire to homes in the town of Khiam.
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that the Israeli army carried out a violent explosion in two phases in the town of Mansouri in the South Governorate, while the town of Zahrani in the Nabatieh Governorate was subjected to concentrated artillery shelling.
In the Marjeyoun district of the Nabatieh Governorate, an Israeli vehicle was stationed at the northern entrance of the town of Khiam near the Hammam area.
This coincided with the Israeli army conducting a wide-ranging combing operation inside the town using heavy and medium machine guns, according to the agency.
It added that columns of smoke rose from several houses in the area as the Israeli army set them on fire.
In the Bint Jbeil district of the Nabatieh Governorate, the town of Barashit was subjected to Israeli artillery shelling, coinciding with drone flights in the area.
In the Nabatieh Governorate as well, the outskirts of the towns of Hadatha and Barashit were subjected to Israeli artillery shelling, according to the agency.
Since March 2, Israel has been escalating its actions against Lebanon, resulting in at least 4,386 deaths and 12,407 injuries, and more than one million displaced persons, according to Lebanese authorities.
Israel continues its attacks despite both sides signing, under U.S. sponsorship, an "Framework Agreement" on June 26, which stipulates a gradual Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Lebanese territories in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army there and the disarmament of Hezbollah.
Israel occupies areas in southern Lebanon, some of which it has controlled for decades, and others since the previous war between 2023 and 2024, while it has advanced more than 10 kilometers during its current escalation.
