The MP for the National Trend bloc, Enam Alaa Al-Din, confirmed today, Thursday, the existence of a serious regression and successive crises affecting the items of the food basket and the ration card across all Iraqi provinces, accompanied by real suffering for citizens, calling on the government, the Ministry of Trade, and public opinion to pay attention to this matter.
Alaa Al-Din said during a press conference held in the parliament building, which was followed by the "Video News Agency," that "most provinces are currently suffering from continuous delays in the delivery of food basket items due to weak coordination and ineffective administrative mechanisms within the ministry's warehouses."
She added that "widespread cases of withholding the ration card from deserving families of limited income have been recorded due to administrative errors and the absence of fair field auditing, exacerbating obstacles in updating data, adding individuals, and transferring ration cards between areas, in addition to the failures in transportation and distribution mechanisms for agents."
She indicated that "the ration card represents the first and last line of food defense for millions of needy families in light of difficult economic conditions, and it is unacceptable to turn the sustenance of the poor into a realm of negligence and administrative disruption."
She called for "a comprehensive inspection campaign on the Ministry of Trade's warehouses in the provinces, especially Babil, where we have received appeals regarding the poor quality of ration card items."
She also urged "holding accountable those responsible for the delays in supply and re-evaluating the decisions to withhold services, simplifying the procedures for inclusion and registration, facilitating the immediate transfer of cards, and ensuring the smooth flow of transportation and the full provision of shares to agents without shortage or delay."
