Al-Amerli: Closing the skies with Iran is an unjust and unstudied decision.

Iraqi Member of Parliament Mahdi Taqi Al-Amerli condemned today, Friday, the decision to close Iraqi airspace to flights coming from Iran and to restrict commercial and border movement between the two countries.

Al-Amerli stated in a statement, which was reviewed by the video news agency, that Iraq has lived for decades under good neighborly relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, despite the blockade imposed on it for over 48 years, noting that Iran has continued to supply Iraq with gas and electricity and has maintained the security of its borders.

He added that Iran's position in 2014 and its role in supporting Iraq during the war against the terrorist organization ISIS cannot be ignored.

Al-Amerli continued that the arbitrary and ill-considered decision to close the airspace and restrict commercial and border movement raises many questions about the implications of this step on the relations and mutual interests between Iraq and Iran.
