Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaydi confirmed today, Friday, his country's commitment to the United Nations Charter and its principles, expressing Iraq's aspiration to play its role as an effective economic power and a bridge for dialogue and cooperation in the region.
Al-Zaydi stated in a speech delivered before the United Nations General Assembly in New York, which was followed by the News Video Agency, that Iraq has suffered from wars, sanctions, and terrorism and our people have paid a heavy price. He pointed out that the national vision stems from the will to restore the authority of law and strengthen state institutions to be the decision-makers in peace and war, and to keep the weapons in the hands of constitutional institutions.
He added that with the completion of the international coalition's mission, the country is heading towards shifting relationships with strategic partners from military cooperation to economic and developmental partnerships, calling for border control and addressing loopholes to prevent the creation of environments conducive to extremism.
He continued that the government is waging a battle against corruption and protecting public funds, working on improving performance efficiency and enhancing services, noting the goal of building a diverse and modern economy that aligns with technological transformations and provides a safe environment for national and foreign investment.
The Prime Minister explained that the vision relies on reducing the effects of the rentier economy, enhancing open market policies, and providing legal and tax guarantees to support the private sector and build effective partnerships with the global market to accelerate sustainable development.
