The Chairman of the Najaf Governorate Council, Hussein Al-Essawi, expressed his hope today, Friday, that the federal government will not approve the implementation of the American sanctions concerning the ban on Iranian flights at Najaf Ashraf International Airport.
Al-Essawi said in a statement received by the "News Video Agency" that the implementation of these sanctions at Najaf Airport would have "economic repercussions" on the governorate, in addition to its impacts on large segments of citizens.
He pointed out that the ban on Iranian flights could cause "great suffering" for students, patients, traders, and visitors, calling on the federal government to consider the potential repercussions of the decision on Najaf governorate and its international airport.
This comes amid restrictions imposed on Iranian flight operations at several airports in the region, including Iraq.
