A security source in Dhi Qar reported today, Friday, the recovery of a young man's body from the waters of the Euphrates River in the center of Nasiriyah, the provincial capital, while the police arrested three individuals on charges of illegal fishing in Kirkuk.
The source stated in a press interview seen by "the Video News Agency" that the drowned young man was in his twenties, and his body was found by divers under the Dutch bridge in the center of Nasiriyah.
It was noted that the body was transported to the forensic medicine department to complete the necessary legal procedures.
In another development, the Kirkuk Police Command announced the arrest of three suspects for illegal fishing in the waters of the Little Zab, in violation of the regulations and laws concerning the protection of fish wealth.
Colonel Amer Nuri Shawani, the spokesperson for the Kirkuk Police Command, stated in a press interview seen by "the Video News Agency" that river police units were able to catch the three suspects while they were using electric shock devices for fishing in the waters of the Little Zab.
He added that the security force confiscated the devices used in the fishing operation and initiated legal procedures against the suspects, in preparation for referring them to the competent authorities in accordance with the law.
He confirmed that the river police units continue their monitoring campaigns in the water bodies and channels within the province's borders, to limit violations that threaten fish wealth and the aquatic environment, and to apprehend offenders and take legal action against them.
